ABLS is a 1-day course sponsored by the American Burn Association. ABLS is designed to provide the guidelines for the assessment and management of the burn patient during the first 24 hours post injury. The didactic lectures cover the basic concepts of assessment and management. The participants, led by faculty, apply these concepts during case study discussions. Upon completion of the didactic the target population is military medical officers and enlisted medical personnel in active duty or presentations and the group discussions, the participants are given the opportunity to work with a simulated burn patient to reinforce the assessment, stabilization, and transfer guidelines. Final testing consists of a written examination as well as practical assessment station.
