We are often asked whether there might be more survivors from mountain trauma in Snowdonia ("what if there was a doctor on board the SAR helicopter?")
The answer is no... the mountain environment & inevitable delay for help to arrive effectively divides casualties into survivors verse non survivors. This series is 1999-2009 (i.e. we went back further than the start of our main MM database in 2004/5) and I can confirm that nothing has occurred to change our conclusion since then. The only trauma victim to arrive alive and subsequently die since this poster was prepared had an injury that would usually have proved fatal before help arrived and it was only due to an exceptionally quick SAR response (they were training nearby) that he arrived in the ED still alive.
We have a pithy little phrase to sum this up that you'll know if you have attended any presentations by the Bangor MM Project team!
